My love for Eugene Peterson is well-known. You can read of my appreciation for him in this Baptist Standard article: Much to learn from Eugene Peterson. I’m also a fan of the band U2. I share with you a conversation which brings those two worlds together.
I return to this video time and time again. Perhaps you’ll do the same.
Peterson: “Crucifixion. There’s violence. There’s got to be some kind of response. And is it more violence or less? I’m glad we have a cross in every room in this house. But when I look at those, I don’t think of decoration. I think this is the world we live in and it’s a world with a lot of crosses. And I just would like to spend my life doing something about that through Scripture, through preaching, through friendship.”
My favorite part of the video is Jan Peterson telling Bono, “Don’t Run!”
