Our church has a frequent courtyard visitor. Her name is Bella, a dog that lives three blocks down the street and follows her seven, two-leged siblings to church. As her family runs into Sunday School, Bella finds a comfortable spot in our courtyard. She typically plops beside a door. She bothers no one. She often never moves. She simply waits.
I’ve been meditating in recent weeks over the powerful truth of John 14:18. I preached the verse in November and the theological truth keeps turning in my mind.
I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.
John 14:18
Reminds me of the faithfulness of a furry friend.
Yet, as we know, it is a tad silly to compare God to a K9 companion. For God is our Creator, Sustainer, Provider, and Redeemer. He just happens to be by our side.
