Imagine a man who has been farming for 40 years.
Imagine a young man fresh out of high school looking to learn about farming.
The young man comes to the veteran farmer seeking wisdom, knowledge, and training. “I’m looking to become a farmer. Could I spend some time with you, follow you around? Would you mind teaching me how to farm?” the young man asks. The old farmer responds, “I’m sorry son. I’ve got nothing to teach you. Perhaps you should find someone else.”
Question: What would you think of this farmer? Wouldn’t you want to ask him, “What have you been doing the last 40 years”?
Let’s change the situation a bit.
Imagine a man who has been following Jesus Christ for 40 years.
Imagine a young man fresh out of high school looking to grow in faith.
The young man comes to the veteran Christian seeking wisdom, knowledge, and training. “I’m looking to grow my faith. Could I spend some time with you, follow you around? Would you mind teaching me to follow Jesus Christ?” the young man asks. The old Christian responds, “I’m sorry, son. I’ve got nothing to teach you. Perhaps, you should find someone else?”
Question: What would you think of this Christian? Wouldn’t you want to ask him, “What have you been doing the last 40 years”?
You see … spiritual growth is a must for the follower of Jesus Christ. After a significant time of following Jesus you should have something significant to show for it. You might not be able to show awards, trophies, and prizes. Yet, spiritual growth should be evident. You should have lessons to share.
Is what you’re doing now leading to spiritual growth?
