We read to our daughter each night before bed. Almost every night includes a reading from the The Jesus Storybook Bible (website here).
The opening pages provide a few words about the Bible itself. Here is a portion that stands out as we celebrate Christmas today:
There are lots of stories in the Bible, but all the stories are telling one Big Story. The Story of how God loves his children and comes to rescue them.
It takes the whole Bible to tell this Story. And at the
center of the Story, there is a baby. Every Story in the Bible whispers his name. He is like the missing piece in a puzzle – the piece that makes all the other pieces fit together, and suddenly you see a beautiful picture.
And this is no ordinary baby. This is the Child upon whom everything would depend.
The name the Bible whispers is Jesus.
Or Immanuel – “God with us” (Matthew 1:23).
He would be the visible image of the invisible God (Colossians 1:15).
He would be the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being (Hebrews 1:3).
He would be the fulfillment of the promises of God (2 Corinthians 1:20).
Celebrate the arrival of the Savior today. He changed everything.
Merry Christmas!
