A Day In The Life Of A Shepherd

IMG_9269I’ve been on two mission trips to Romania.  One of the things I enjoy during brief (and rare) moments of down time is watching shepherds at work.  Modern day shepherds.  How cool is that?

It is amazing to watch the shepherd move a flock with the aid of his voice, a stick, and a dog.  On my next trip to Romania I want to spend significant time with a shepherd.

Watching a shepherd from a distance has given Psalm 23 new meaning for me.  I can’t imagine the benefit of a day in the life of a shepherd.

“The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.  He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul.  He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.  Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”

More shepherd thoughts in the next post.
