I love Advent for many reasons. At the top of the list might be kid’s sermons. I have a tradition of gathering the children around the Advent candles and telling them about the promises of God. It always provides for a few moments of laughter and spiritual insight.
This year young Joey asked for 8 puppies for Christmas and little Merit asked for an Arabian mare. Ultimately, the award for kid’s sermon highlight goes to the young girl who came down for the candle lighting at our 6pm Christmas Eve service. Once I’d finished up discussing Jesus as the light of the world, she handed me a leaf. “I bought a leaf for Jesus” she informed me. It was my honor to place her gift among the gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
Thank God for Advent. Thank God for kids.
