The Power of the Gospel

I don’t share this as a humble brag or as a tool to solicit “You’re such a good pastor” comments. Rather, I share this in order to boast in the power of the gospel.

This past week …

I visited a family reeling from an unexpected, tragic death. The gospel was enough.

I visited a homebound church member. The gospel was enough.

I made handfuls of calls to those facing medical procedures or recovering from procedures. The gospel was enough.

I officiated a wedding. The gospel was enough.

I delivered a Wednesday night Bible study and preached Sunday morning sermons. The gospel was enough.

I baptized a young man. The gospel was enough.

I spent evenings attempting to love my wife and children. The gospel was enough.

I dealt with my own stress, worry, and weakness. The gospel was enough.

I don’t need to be clever or cute to be effective. I don’t need gimmicks or gadgets for ministry. Just the completed and sufficient work of Jesus.

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.1 Corinthians‬ ‭1:18‬

  1. Yes the Gospel is always enough. I spent yet another day at Baylor seeing Dr, having tests & getting IV meds. As I was waiting for IV to finish I was talking to another patient I am certain God put in my path. Before she left, she took my hand , asked my name and said I want to call you by name when I pray for you. I have a new friend named Wilma because the Gospel is enough for us. We may never meet again here, ah but we will know each other in Heaven because the Gospel is enough!
