God is Patient

The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

2 Peter 3:9

We should make note that Peter says God is patient with “you.”  He is not speaking to the world but to you.  It is a reminder of God’s patience.  It is because of God’s patience that believers will be saved.  Saved?  Saved from what?  Let’s take about that a little more.  Perhaps a refresher course to some.  Perhaps an eye opener to others.

God withholds what we deserve.

We deserve …

  1. Punishment
  2. Death

As people who have sinned against a Holy God we deserve the punishment of sin.  What is that punishment? Death.  Yet, for those of us in Christ Jesus, he withholds punishment. You see, Jesus was the sinless Savior who died for our sin.  If we confess our sin, God is faithful and just to forgive us through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus.

God provides what we don’t deserve.

We don’t deserve …

  1. Grace
  2. Life

You see, while we deserve punishment and death, God offers us grace and life.  Through Jesus Christ, we are reconciled to God and enter into a restored relationship with our Creator, Provider, and Sustainer. Through Jesus Christ we are given everlasting life.

God is indeed patient with us.

You should thank God that he is patient with us.  You should thank God that he is patient with you.

I don’t know the current state of your relationship with God.  But I do know that you are not too far gone.  I know that you have not messed up too many times.  I know that you have not committed a sin too big for the forgiveness of God.

I encourage you to allow the kindness and patience of God to lead you to repentance.

Confess your sin and experience the faithfulness of God in forgiveness.

God is indeed patient with us.
