“I may never live in Montecito
I’ll probably never own a jet”

Me neither, Ben.

I’m always on the search for a sense of accomplishment. Which means that I’m in a constant state of disappointment. No matter the job done, the pats on the back, or the size of the crowd … it’s never enough.

I nitpick what could have been better. I start planning the next event, writing the next sermon, stressing over the next meeting.

It’s exhausting.

Then I come home to my beautiful wife, Katie. To steal a line from Alexander Hamilton, “She’s the best of wives and best of women.”

Shortly after my arrival in the back door, we share a family meal. My daughter sits to my right. Abigail plays the clarinet and is always on the hunt for a good meal and a social interaction. She might be the greatest leader I’ve ever met … and she’s 13.

My son sits to my left. Wesley has recently developed an obsession for sports cards. Money burns a hole in his pocket until he can exchange bills for another pack. He’s smart and inquisitive, yet reserved.

In slower moments, I’m reminded of God’s blessing in form of the family he’s entrusted to my care. I might have to fight Ben Rector for the title, “The Richest Man in the World.”

Give the song a listen.
