This post blends two previous series. It is the third installment of “Crafting Definitions.” You can find previous posts here and here. It is also the third installment regarding the Trinity. You can find previous posts here and here.
In preparation for sermons, I often craft personal definitions. I do this in an effort to exposit the word of God and make things “rememberable” for the people of my congregation. The definitions provided now have not been used in sermons, but will be used in future posts on this blog. Here’s a list of theological terms:
Theology: The study of the nature of the triune God.
Paterology: The study of God, the Father, who is great, mighty, and sovereign over all.
Christology: The study of God, the Son, who saves sinners like you and me.
Pneumatology: The study of God, the Holy Spirit, who indwells all who trust in the completed and sufficient work of Jesus.
Soteriology: The study of how Jesus saves sinners like you and me.
Justification: The process by which God declares sinners like you and me to be righteous.
Sanctification: The process by which God molds you into Christlikeness.
Glorification: Our sanctification made perfect and eternal.
