Thank God Today

I recently preached the passage about ten lepers healed by Jesus as he traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee (You can read the story in Luke 17:11-19 and you can watch my sermon here).

Only one of the ten healed returned to Jesus in order to praise God. Jesus responded to the once leprous Samaritan: “We’re not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner?”

Here, like many scenes in Luke’s gospel, we witness Jesus’ ministry to the outsider, outcast, and the overlooked. Once again, an outsider shows us that the only appropriate response to grace is faith.

This passage leads me to ask you a pointed question: What if you woke up tomorrow with only the things you thanked God for today?

In this thought experiment, nine of the ten lepers would lose out on being healed.

What would it cost you?
